Marelize, a 37-year-old South African fine artist currently residing in Windhoek, Namibia, specializes in Printmaking and Sculpting. Her primary mediums include relief printing of linocuts and intaglio printing of dry point engravings on plexiglass, as well as bronze casting for sculpting.
Themes of profound loss, rediscovered hope, and newfound love feature prominently in her work, often incorporating the female figure. Marelize employs a minimalist approach, using stark contrasts of black and white to emphasize the dichotomy between life and death, with occasional touches of colour and gold leafing symbolizing healing and hope.
She holds a Diploma in Graphic Design, Photography, and Marketing from Planet Pixl School of Advertising and Photography (2009) and a B. Tech Fine Art degree from Central University of Technology, Free State (2015). Marelize has participated in numerous student and group exhibitions, including showcases at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum Reservoir gallery space (2008, 2009), Gallery on Leviseur (2018) and Bellhaus Atelier & Galerie (2024).
